Crank case explosion on Liberian tanker YIOMARAL @ 1331hrs 17 September 2005
- No personnel injuries.
- A hole of approx. 25 mm was found on one of the piston head (crown) & through this hole, the pressure in the combustion chamber was transmitted via the piston’s cooling oil passage in the piston rod into the crank case, thus causing an overpressure in the crankcase and lifting of all relief valves.
- Engine model: 7 cylinder, two stroke diesel engine (Sulzer) of 26,079 kW, type 7RTA 84M
