Power plants
Operating power plants includes a certain amount of risk of engine damage. Failing main bearing, conrod slide ring bearing or a piston seizure might result in consequential damage such as crankcase explosions due to igniting oil mist being generated by friction damage.
These phenomena are quite well recorded and investigated within the marine industry. Very similar engine types to those operated in power plants are found at sea and the lessons learned from these investigations can be carried over.
